John Lester Armenta 

Winds | Flute

Lester has been a flutist for Manila Symphony Orchestra since 2017 and has performed with the orchestra in gala concerts, special concerts, outreach concerts, and tours including MSO’s first international concert tour in 2019, the 5th Hunhe River Bank Symphony Art Festival held at the Grand Shengjing Theater , Shenyang, China. In 2014, he was the principal flutist in the Asian Youth Orchestra (AYO) Rehearsal Camp and Tour and performed concerts in countries such as Hongkong, Beijing, Guangzhou, Taipei, Chiayi, Osaka, Ayase and Tokyo. He was the delegated flutist in the National Band and Orchestra Festival in 2014 with the ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2013, he was the principal flutist of chamber orchestra Grupo 20/21 in the premiere of a Filipino Opera “San Andres B” by Josefino Toledo held in the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP). In the same year, he was designated flutist in the Asian Orchestra Week in Tokyo, Japan with the Manila Philharmonic Orchestra. He was also the designated flutist in the National Youth Music Camp in 2008, 2009 and 2011.

In 2015, Lester got Honorable Mention in the National Music Competitions for Young Artists (NAMCYA). Lester was under the tutelage of Antonio Ruiz, Maigue, Francisco Candelaria and Crystal Rodis-Concepcion. In 2016, he took masterclasses under Jin Ta, principal flute of Singapore Symphony Orchestra.

Lester is currently taking Diploma on Creative Performing Musical Arts at the University of the Philippines Diliman. In addition to his work in MSO, he is also the principal flutist of the Metro Manila Concert Orchestra and Imus Youth Symphonic Band. He also plays occasionally with Manila Philharmonic Orchestra and ABS CBN Philharmonic Orchestra.
