Katerina P. Hernandez

Strings | Violin 1

“When I joined MSO, I have just entered college and adjusted my life alone in Manila. This is my first orchestra experience, alongside the college string orchestra. Through the years, I am learning how to adapt, how to be a professional, when to follow, when to lead, and sometimes when to step back. MSO has taught me to stay grounded and reminded me to keep learning and discovering, even from the "MSO staple" pieces. I am fortunate to work and hang out with my colleagues in MSO through these years. I am also glad that MSO has invited world class musicians and conductors. They all offer different perspectives about building music.”

Katerina started her career in Manila Symphony Orchestra back in 2006, as she was about to enter the university. She finished her degree in Bachelor of Music Major in Music Education with Violin Principal in 2011 from St. Scholastica’s College. Katerina honed her skills and artistry under the tutelage of Iric Paner, Arturo Molina, Joseph Esmilla and Sergio Esmilla Jr. Some of the most noteworthy performances she has done with MSO were the 5th Hunhe River Symphony Festival in Shenyang, China in 2019 which was MSO’s first international concert tour, the Asia in Resonance Concert in Tokyo, Japan in 2019, and the MSO Visayas Concert Tour in 2017.

Katerina obtained her license as a professional teacher in 2011. She is a Suzuki Certified Teacher and a member of the Philippine Suzuki Association. She has participated in numerous Suzuki Teacher Trainings and Workshops by Christophe Bossuat, Hwang Kyung Ik, Jeong Cheol-Woong, Lan Ku Chen, Hoei Tsu Chen, Mark Mutter, and Carmencita Arambulo.
