Jeremiah Sosa

Brass | Trumpet

“MSO reignited my passion for playing the trumpet.”

Jeremiah’s music career as a trumpet player was not as ideal as he expected it to be. He was a member of the Manila Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) in 1998-2002, but due to unforeseen circumstances, his music career was cut short and he was forced to take another career path. He didn’t play the trumpet for 9 years. During these years, Jeremiah worked as a slot machine technician in a floating casino in Texas and Florida.

In 2011, he came back to the Philippines and started playing the trumpet again occasionally for Manila Symphony Orchestra (MSO). And when an opportunity to audition for MSO was presented to him, he took it and successfully passed. He became a member of the MSO in 2016 and has since performed with the orchestra in gala concerts, special concerts and tours, including MSO’s first international concert tour in 2019, the 5th Hunhe River Bank Symphony Art Festival held at the Grand Shengjing Theater , Shenyang, China.

Jeremiah graduated with a degree in Bachelor of Music Major in Trumpet from the University of Santo Tomas under the tutelage of Prof. Roger Llado. Prior to this, he studied with Vernon Villapando, his first teacher, in St. Scholastica’s College. He participated in the ASEAN workshop in Thailand and the Asian Youth Orchestra workshops in 1996. He was part of the Asian Youth Orchestra in its Asian concert tour in Hongkong, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and Philippines) in 1996.

Aside from his work in MSO, Jeremiah is a trumpet teacher in MSO Music Academy and an entrepreneur. He is also a member of the Thomasian Brass Quintet .
