Concert 1: The Music of Ryan Cayabyab

The MSO opens our Season with a tribute to the music of our newly appointed National Artist for Music Maestro Ryan Cayabyab. At home in both the classical and popular music alike, Maestro Cayabyab’s prodigious creativity is manifest in his numerous choral and orchestral output, which will be interpreted for us by the MSO under the baton of Guest Conductor Prof. Jonathan Velasco together with the Ateneo Chamber Singers.

Concert 2: Double Concerto

The earthy baritone voice of the cello mixes it up with the golden timbre of the soprano voice as two Berlin-based artists cellist Matias Oliveira Pinto (cello) and Andion Fernandez-Ching (soprano) performs for the first time in Manila Jeffrey Ching’s ritualistic new work. The audience will also be treated to further appreciate the cello’s agility and expressivenes in Haydn’s Cello Concerto in C-major.

Concert 3: Sibelius and Beethoven 5th

October 6 (Sunday, 6 p.m.) Arete, Ateneo De Manila University
The MSO Foundation’s faith and belief the young talent is highlighted in the program featuring 15-year old violinist Jeanne Rafaella Marquez, first prize winner in the 2018 National Music Competitions for young Artists (NAMCYA) as she performs the holy grail of all violin concertos-Sibelius’ D-minor. Finnish-Filipino conducting prodigy Tarmo Peltokoski, a protege of the legendary Finnish conducting legend Jorma Panula, will have his Philippine debut as he leadsas he leads the MSO in this program that will also feature Beethoven’s most popular Symphony, his Fifth in C-minor.

International conducting superstar Darrell Ang returns to MSO as he teams up with MSO’s Concertmaster, Juilliard-trained violinist Diomedes Saraza Jr. Together they will premiere in the Philippines the Violin Concerto in E-minor by Jules Conus,a rarely performed gem of Russian Romantic violin literature. Saraza as concertmaster will also be highlighted in Rimsky-Korsakov’s colourful orchestral masterwork, the Scheherazade that will bring into focus MSO'svirtuoso status as an orchestra.Conus: Violin Concerto in E-Minor.

The most popular concerto for the guitar, Joaquin Rodrigo’s “Concerto de Aranjuez” will be performed Spanish guitar virtuoso Jacob Cordover with the MSO who, under the baton of principal guest conductor Marlon Chen, will close the season with a performance the monumental Symphony No. 5 by Russian composer Dmitri Shostakovich.
